Preserve the Dream
Preserving Dr. Bob's Home has been the dream of AA members who found themselves in a position to do so;
to preserve the Smith Home - the place where Dr. Bob and Anne Smith loved and served thousands of
recovering alcoholics. Because it was in this house where Dr. Bob regularly met with Bill Wilson
and other recovering men and women, and therefore began the spiritual awakening that resulted in
his recovery, we believe, without reservation, that this site should be preserved for all present
and future AA members in that spirit of Love and Service so dear to Dr. Bob.
Just as we daily reflect on the 12 spiritual steps that brought us closer to our Higher Power and
our spiritual home in recovery, we can look upon Dr. Bob's Home from the corner of Ardmore and
Everett. We may notice that there are 12 wooden and stone steps that lead to the porch of a
home that, while constructed of brick and wood, can become a place where we feel closer to our
Creator and one with the spirit of those who have gone before.
